I love this whole series. I love the Texican borderland hats they are wearing, and the posed pretense of going to work. Is it me, or is Paul Alvin the only one with a speck of dirt on his clothes? What were they making, the annual Christmas card?
HA! Good question. The pictures in this little set Do look posed, don't they? Many of the early prints of these negatives (that we still have in the family) were printed on postcard paper and sent through the mail to other family members. So one wonders if some of these pictures were taken to send back to other family members back in Iowa or Illinois or even Sweden to illustrate what life was like in Texas. As far as I know, none of these were taken with any intent of publishing or sharing outside the family.
