Esther Paulson prepares to pose, circa 1910

Esther Paulson, circa 1910
The pre-pose picture for last week's post:  Esther Maria Theresia Paulson. With her hair down, Esther contemplates the flower that will be placed in hair for her portrait. In this picture we can see a little more of the room in which she is sitting, including a picture on the wall and a curtain. The negative is damaged and the emulsion has peeled off the left side and along the bottom.

Identifiers:
Negative: Paulson383 (1200 tiff downsized to 400 jpeg for this post)
People: Esther Maria Theresia Paulson Lundholm (January 29 1894 - June 28, 1992)
Place: probably Davenport, Iowa, circa 1910
Photographer: most likely one of Esther's sisters - either Amy or Nellie Paulson

  1. I was thinking that curtain on the right of the photo might just be the backdrop we see in the other pictures, but looking at the earlier post it's hard to imagine such a wrinkle-free surface could possibly be anything but rigid. Still not sure whether I'd bet this was in somebody's home or in the photo supply place Amy worked, which I can very much imagine also offered portrait services. Hopefully there will be more evidence down the line!

Do you think the flower in this picture is the same thing that is in Esther's hair in the other? In the earlier post that looks more like a bow to me.

  3. Good call Mr. Cavin. You are right. She does have a bow in her hair in the earlier picture, while this appears to be a flower.
