| Mabel Cavallin (Sept 22, 1884 - Feb 28, 1958), probably circa 1904. Texas. |
Having found my grandmother's friend, Mabel, in the documentary record, I began to search for her in the photographs. This was complicated by the fact that I did not know what she looked like. There was a picture in the 1918 Swedes in Texas book, but the tiny figures of Mabel and her husband, Otto Peterson were small and the resolution was not good enough to distinguish their features. I found several family photos of a much older Mabel on the Internet, but the stocky woman might be any of several ladies in my Olivia pictures. Finally, just 2 weeks ago, a Cavallin/Peterson family member posted an early picture of Mabel and her husband Otto in preparation for a family reunion and the mystery was solved!
But now I had a new question. The Mabel Cavallin in my pictures is found not just in many pictures from Texas, but also in numerous pictures from Iowa. What was "Mabel from Texas" doing up in Iowa?
