Early 1900s Texas, men's clothing.

Man holding little girl, early 1900s, Texas.
For me, the striking thing about this photo is that it could have been taken at any time in the 1900s. Typical men's clothing has just not changed in 100 years!  The photo can be dated only because the little girl is present in other pictures with women wearing more "datable" clothing.

And yet, even without the landscape and date, our gentleman in this picture is immediately recognizable as "western".  He is wearing a striped tucked-in shirt with tie, pants of woven material with a narrow stripe, a narrow belt, shoes, and an "iconic" western hat.  That hat was popularized by the Stetson company in the late 1800s/ early 1900s and it's been typical western wear ever since.

Compare this man's clothing to the clothing worn by that worn by men in other pictures in this set. Were farmers and ranchers / stockmen wearing different types of clothing at this date? Was there a change in the clothing worn by the early Swedish-American settlers as they moved into this area from other parts of the United States?  ( Men's clothing )
