Happy "National Squirrel Appreciation" Day

Squirrel, circa 1910
Squirrel Appreciation Day has only been a "Day" since 2001, but even in the early 1900s squirrels had their "appreciators".

This chubby fellow is probably an eastern gray squirrel or a fox squirrel - both common in Iowa where this picture was likely taken.  Note that 100 years ago city squirrels sat on park benches and ate nuts, much as they do today.

It's nice to know that some things have not changed in a century.

Identifiers
Negative: Paulson086 (1200 tiff downsized to 200 jpeg for this post)
